2022-23 Teachers of the Year

Some of Spartanburg District Five's best educators were in the spotlight Tuesday evening, as the district honored its 2022-23 Teachers of the Year.   The annual celebration, held at the Piedmont Club in Spartanburg, recognizes one educator from each of the district's twelve schools, who are selected by their colleagues at each individual campus.

Superintendent Dr. Randall Gary kicked off the annual event by thanking teachers for the job they do every day,  and the impact they have on students in the classroom.  School Board Chairman Jeff Boland also addressed the honorees, reminding them that they leave a lifelong impression on their students.

Katie Farr, a 1st grade teacher at Wellford Academy, was also honored as the 2023-24 District Five Teacher of the Year.  Farr addressed her fellow teachers, inspiring them to "be a light" for their students and schools.

Hill Middle School, Christy Hewitt:  Florence Chapel Middle School, Ashley Shearsmith:  Byrnes Freshman Academy, and Kamesha Gilmore:  Byrnes High School.
